Stave shells are now available with splines for added strength.

The splines make the shell much more rigid, and far less likely to ever come apart. Splines provide three times the glued surface and a cross laminated interlock.

Our Shells are hand crafted using the finest hard woods available, such as American Rock Maple, Birch, Rosewood, Bubinga, and Mozambique.... hundreds of woods to choose from and each species of wood has it's own unique sound and characteristics.

Our shells are not plywood. We build solid segment shells Stave shells and bent wood Shells. All of our shells are great for bodhran drums also.

Segment shells, stave shells and bent wood shells are superior to plywood shells in several ways. First of all the plies in a plywood shell are dampened by diaphragms of glue between the plies of wood. The average snare shell has approximately 2000 square inches of glued surface.

Our segment shells have less than 75 square inches of glued surface and the surfaces do not create sound inhibiting diaphragms. The result is a louder, clearer and more focused drum sound.

Custom orders are available in virtually all sizes and wall thickness using your favorite hardwoods, hardware and finishes. Raw Shells are also available.
